Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc., better known as BRASS, Inc., has been at the heart of the Galentine’s Gala since the very beginning.
The idea for Galentine’s first came to Morgan in 2020—a gathering centered around women, friendship, and celebrating the relationships that carry us through every season of life. In 2023, that idea grew into something bigger: What if we could bring women in our community together during the month of love while using that gathering to show love to women who need it most?
In February 2024, the very first Galentine’s Gala was held with proceeds benefiting BRASS, Inc. What began as an idea quickly became an annual tradition and a partnership we are incredibly proud of.
In just three years, the Galentine’s Gala has raised more than $123,000 for BRASS, Inc.
Each ticket purchased, sponsorship given, auction item donated, raffle ticket sold, and hand raised during our events has contributed to that total. But for us, this partnership has always been about far more than a dollar amount. It is about standing behind an organization that is doing life-changing work for women and families right here in our community.
About BRASS, Inc.
Founded in 1980, Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safety and support to victims of domestic violence and their children while empowering survivors with opportunities that lead toward independence and self-sufficiency.
BRASS Inc. serves a 10-county region in South Central Kentucky, including Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, and Warren counties.
Their work extends far beyond providing a safe place to stay. BRASS offers comprehensive, confidential services designed to meet survivors wherever they are in their journey toward safety, healing, and independence.
Services include:
Emergency shelter and 24/7 crisis support
Housing assistance and advocacy
Emergency financial assistance
Crisis intervention and case management
Counseling and support groups
Children’s services and programming
Economic empowerment and financial literacy resources
Food and other essential resources
Legal and court advocacy
Community education and domestic violence awareness
These services are provided free of charge to the survivors and families BRASS serves.
Their 30-bed emergency shelter provides a safe haven for individuals and children escaping domestic violence, while their outreach, advocacy, housing, counseling, and educational programs allow BRASS to support thousands of individuals throughout the region each year.
Why This Partnership Matters
The Galentine’s Gala is a celebration of women—but it also carries a deeper purpose.
We gather with our girlfriends. We dress up. We laugh, dance, eat, shop, and celebrate friendship. And together, we use that evening to help another woman find safety, stability, and the opportunity for a new beginning.
BRASS Inc. believes in a community where patterns of abuse are broken, survivors are supported, homes are free from violence, and healthy relationships can thrive. That is a mission we are incredibly proud to stand behind.
What began with our first Gala in 2024 has grown into three years of partnership, more than $123,000 raised, and a community of women coming together year after year to make an impact.
